That alone raises a difficult question: what if some purely testosterone—driven and mentally troubled leader (…) running a company or even a country would be no longer acting purely on their own (missing) cognition?
Still there is no verified evidence of fully “controlled minds”, still claims of remotely controlled individuals remain. But developments in neural interfaces and adaptive AI systems are real and accelerating. In theory, highly advanced implants could stabilize or enhance cognition in targeted patients or test subjects—quietly filling in what some researchers describe as missing capacity.
From Assistance to Substitution
Today’s brain-computer interfaces already restore movement or communication in patients with neurological damage. The next step would go further: supporting decision-making, emotional regulation, and learning.
In more extreme scenarios, such systems could compensate for severe cognitive deficits. Rather than replacing a person, the implant would function as a continuous internal support system—processing information, guiding responses, and smoothing out cognitive gaps.
“It wouldn’t turn someone into something else,” one researcher said. “It would fill in missing functions—quietly, in the background.”
